Nanotechnology in Cosmetics - Is it safe
Nanotechnology is the latest technology which is getting popular in every field such as manufacturing industries, agriculture industries, medical industry and social industry. Nanotechnology is basically the technology to control the matter on an atomic or molecular scale. Generally nanotechnology deals with structures of the size 100 nanometers or smaller, and involves developing materials or devices within that size. This technology is the latest one and is proving helpful in the production of new materials on a nanoscale.
Interestingly it has also dominated the cosmetic industry. As women are seriously worried about their aging and want to look beautiful, they are constantly looking for those cosmetic products that will help them in modifying their skin and beauty. Researches have shown that nanotechnology has helped in healing and repairing the skin tissues.
Let us see its various uses in cosmetics.
- Nanoparticles are so small that they can easily penetrate into the skin and thus help in repairing the skin tissues. It is because of this factor that you can prevent skin aging by using the products which have the nanotechnology built into it.
- This technology is also used in preventing the hair loss and graying issues.
- Sunscreens and some anti-aging products are the main cosmetic products on the market currently being made using nanotechnology. They are designed to penetrate the upper layers of the skin and stimulate new skin cell production which gives skin a new, plump, and youthful appearance.
- We all know the cosmetic range from L’Oreal which has brought the fantastic wrinkle-free creams for the aged women who want to look elegant and gorgeous. The wrinkle-free creams have given the immediate results because the products contain nanosiomes of Pro-Retinol A.
- Some of the nanoparticles such zinc oxide and titanium dioxide have been included in sunscreen.
- The products that use this nanotechnology are costlier as compared to others.
- Some of the products that they have introduced which incorporate the use of nanosomes are Biotherm Age Fitness Nuit, Vichy Reti C, and Revitalift Double Lifting.
But there are many disadvantages associated with the nanotechnology skin products as they pose harm on the skin causing various diseases.
- Nanoparticles can enter the skin deeply and can potentially interact with the immune system and bloodstream, and possibly become toxic and damage tissue of your face.
- It may reduce wrinkles and lift, but long term can it cause cancer or may breakdown your immune system.
Thus we see that apart from providing benefits for our skin, nanotechnology also hampers our skin and causes health problems. So it is advised that you should first consult your dermatologist before buying any nanotechnology based cosmetic products as your skin plays a major role in protecting and presenting you.
