1. The cost
Consider the cost associated with the build in GPS navigation system and the one that you install outside. The built in units are costly that those which you install outside. If you wish to install the navigation unit separately then consider the different types available in the market. You can find the in-dash add-on navigation system and portable GPS systems.
The add-on navigation system is affordable but you need experts to install the unit. This adds to the cost. The portable units are most affordable among the three types.
2. GPS system features
After comparing the system on the basis of cost, compare them on the basis of features. Some systems display the map with the pointer which indicates the direction. Other comes with the speaker which gives voice indication of the route that you can follow. Choose a GPS system that give both voice and map graphic directions.
Look for the data such as the ATM location in the state, best route to the airport, bank and other important places of your interest. Choose the system which gives you the facility to constantly update the data of interest.
3.How often will you use the system?
Decide how often you need the system. Also consider how long the system needs to install if you are working on a limited budget.
4. Consider the layout of your car
The units come with the LCD screens on which the map is displayed. If you choose the systems with the large screen for display then find out if the screen has a fold option. This screen is placed either on the dashboard or on the pedestal in front of the dashboard. Examine your car and find out that the screen can be placed comfortably and does not block the air vent.
