Discovered by S. Iijima in 1991, Carbon nanotubes are long, thin cylinders of carbon having a length-to-diameter ratio of 28,000,000:1. Carbon nanotubes are tiny tubes (about 10,000 times thinner than a human hair), consisting of rolled up sheets of carbon. Carbon nanotubes have remarkable properties and are among the strongest and stiffest fibers known to mankind. These exciting structures have triggered a lot of excitement in recent years and a large amount of research has been dedicated for understanding them properly.
An ideal nanotube can be thought of as a hexagonal network of carbon atoms that has been rolled up to make a seamless cylinder. Nanotubes have great electronic, thermal, and structural properties which make them very suitable for a variety of operations. However, their use is currently limited due to the toxicity they carry. The chemical bonding of nanotubes is sp^2, similar to that of graphite making them even stronger than diamonds, which is the reason for their unique strength and sturdity.
Nanotubes are divided into twp categories- single-walled nanotubes (SWNTs) and multi-walled nanotubes (MWNTs). Generally, the single-walled nanotubes have a diameter of 1 nanometer with the length being million times longer. They are an important variety of nanotube because they show excellent electric properties which are not shown by the multi-walled nanotubes. A useful application of SWNTs can be in the development of intramolecular field effect transistors (known as FET).
On the other hand, multi-walled nanotubes consist of multiple rolled layers (concentric tubes) of graphite. The multi-walled nanotubes are similar in morphology and properties to the SWNTs but their resistance to chemicals is better than the SWNTs. In the case of DWNT, only the outer wall is modified. DWNT synthesis on the gram-scale was first proposed in 2003 by the CCVD technique, from the selective reduction of oxide solutions in methane and hydrogen.
Nanotubes can be simply manipulated to change their shape and place them on electrodes. One can also change the mechanical behavior of nanotubes by calculating the forces acting between nanotubes and other objects such as the substrate. Depending on their structure, nanotubes can be used as conductors, semi-conductors or even metals. Nanotubes are currently being used in several areas of technology. These include flat-panel displays, scanning probe microscopes and sensing devices. The unique properties of carbon nanotubes will undoubtedly lead to many more applications.
So, you can see for your self that nanotubes have a number of applications and if more features/uses are found about them, then it will certainly be remarkable! As we continue to learn about nanotubes, we will find other unique properties which could be used in various applications!

Have you heard about Solar Powered Airplanes? Well, solar powered airplanes are the newest invention in the field of airplanes. As the name suggests, these airplanes are driven by solar power as compared to fuels. The use of solar energy for flying airplanes has been viewed as a major breakthrough towards the conservation of fossil fuels and protection of the environment. Even though solar power seems to be promising, it does have its’ disadvantages as well.
A prototype or model of the solar plane has been introduced and it is called the Solar Impulse. This airplane costs around $94,000,000 and it weighs 3300 pounds. The length of the plane is 3, 6 meters and is 2meters in height excluding the propellers upper blades. This solar plane has a basic speed of 30 to 40 km/hr but the speed can increase up to 270 km/hr. The airplane is equipped with 14DC electric motors, with each motor weighing 5 kilograms and having 1.5 W powers.
The propeller blades of the airplane are 1.7 meters in length. The plane is powered with the help of bifacial solar cells having dimensions of 1.25″ x 2.75″ having efficiencies of 11% on the backside and 22% on the front side. In the current times, lithium cells are used for powering the plane at night or during dark but in future the plane is going to use fuel cells as a major source of energy during night. Using the fuel cells, these planes will fly for several months using the uninterrupted energy.
Well, in spite of the above advantages, solar airplanes have several disadvantages also. The first flaw in the design of solar planes is that only one pilot can fit into the cockpit at one time. Obviously, this is dangerous because the pilot would not have any assistance if he/she gets into trouble. Secondly, the solar powered airplanes use the energy of the sun during the day and store this energy for operation during the night. However, this kind of mechanism can lead to unwanted complication or power failure at night.
Moreover, this plane can fly only for eight hours at one stretch before getting recharged. This is a serious shortcoming because such kinds of flights can pose dangers to the safety of people flying thousands of feet above the earth. So, you can see that there are many features of the solar airplane which need to be perfected before the plane can actually be used for commercial purposes.
Well, solar powered airplanes have both advantages and disadvantages. We need to look into both the aspects before any concrete step is taken! However, if this technology becomes successful then, we will take a huge leap in protecting our environment!

Nowadays cases of mail theft are not new and almost every mail account holder must have witnessed these thefts or hacking either once or twice in his/her life. Remember that every e-mail you send is an open book unless you have encrypted it or used special software’s for its’ protection. Securing your mails is a prime necessity because without it, your data can never be private and any personal information may get deleted!
There are many ways in which you can secure emails. Here are some of them:
- The first step towards securing your e-mail is to be cautious while setting up the account. As you are setting up your email account never set your address as your first and last names. Even the initials are easy to make out. Anyone can find out your names-and initial guessing is as easy as trying the 26 letters of the alphabet. Make sure that you choose an unusual password and a security question that no-one is able to guess. Never tell your password to anyone, no matter how close the person is to you!
- Another step would be to use a secure e-mail client. This obviously includes products like Outlook Express, The Bat and Thunderbird. If you have created your mail account on web browser such as hotmail, yahoomail, gmail etc, then this becomes your e-mail client. Out of the four e-mail clients mentioned above, the Bat is the most secure one! So, try working on this client only.
- Try to use additional multi-layered defenses. Your PC gets infected by a number of viruses such as Trojan horse and many more, which eventually results in the loss of data. To be safe, you will require anti-spyware/adware software to scan your system for Trojans that have got through; and you may need a firewall that will stop unauthorized applications trying to connect to the internet.
- Identity-based encryption scheme can be used to encrypt data using an arbitrary string as the key. Another software which you can use is the SoftClan e-cryptor. SoftClan e-cryptor makes it easy to send emails using strong encryption, but does not integrate with existing email software and its security relies on passwords. Both these software’s enable you to send an encrypted mail with the help of tough symmetric 128-bit encryption.
Well, above are some ways in which you can secure your e-mails. After all, your e-mails are your private data and nobody has the right to access or delete your personal data. I hope that you will like the above methods of securing your e-mail and will implement these methods to the earnest.

I do feel that the genetic engineering is quiet different from the other kind of breeding such as the traditional breeding. As far as the Genetic engineering is concerned it uses the tricks such as that of molecular cloning and transformation and in this way it alters the structure and characteristic of the gene directly.
Genetic engineering techniques have been successful in many new applications. I would now like to list some of the examples where the genetic engineering has been found to be successful.
They are as follows:
- The first example which comes to my mind is the crop technology. The field of genetic engineering has really been quiet successful as far as the crop technology is concerned.
- The manufacture of synthetic human insulin through the use of modified bacteria is also one of the major successes.
- The third example is that of the manufacture of erythropoietin in hamster ovary cells.
- And the last but not the least is the production of new types of experimental mice such as the oncomouse which is also called the cancer mouse for research purpose.
There are a number of ways through which genetic engineering is achieved. Fundamentally, the process has five main steps which are as follows:
- The first step is the isolation and I must tell you that in this step the genes which are found to be of interest are really isolated from the rest.
- The second step is the insertion of the genes in the transfer vector.
- The third step deals with the transfer of the vector to the organism to be modified.
- The fourth step deals with the transformation of the cells of the organism.
- And the final step comprises of the selection of the genetically modified organism which is abbreviated as the GMO from those that have not been successfully modified.
Application
The first genetically engineered medicine was the insulin which was developed way back in the year 1982. This really turned out to be quiet effective during those days. There was another great application of the genetic engineer very soon. It was the creation of the human growth hormones. This entire discovery really turned out to be really great for the mankind. There were many more discoveries as well. They really turned out to be really for the medicinal world.
Every new day in the field of genetic engineering there is found some kind of the discoveries. The technologies like molecular cloning have really turned out to be really great for the genetic engineering. I too do feel that this field of science has a great future ahead. However this field as well has been affected by the recession but you can hope for quick healing in the coming time.

Advertising field has brought many changes in the economy. Today advertisements had preoccupied the man brains this is due to displaying of advertisements everywhere. Advisements are displaced at internet, on television and on every website. Advanced animations plays important role in displaying advertisements on website today. The viewer gets amazed and fascinated with these advertisements and hence gets influenced for specified product.
These animated features make the website of any business company interesting and viewer pays more attention to the respective website.
How the animation company chooses right animation
- First the company begins with the research about the subject of animation. They consider the things like the type of company and the products which they need to sell to the audience. The brochure of the company is collected by the clients to choose advanced and best animation.
- Once research gets completed up clients writes the story and draws the rough sketch of animated video. Various stages are decided by clients and in the end certain result is put as a notice for the viewer.
- Content of the story is also edited and hence finally all the requirements are included in it.
- When story is approved then story gets to the production team. Production executives would add suitable sound to the animated story and this creation makes the story look real.
- Coloring is also done after sound production new soothing colors are added to the animation. Coloring is time taking process and thus updates of animations are continuously sent to the concerned clients.
Revision of the Product
Review is essential aspect as it is the process of checking of errors if any before launching the product in the market. The clients finally examine the final product carefully. Once the product gets approval, it is converted to intended format for market delivery. The products are converted into flash videos or to the DVD for televisions.
Thus the product launches in the market but at every step Animation Company pays equal importance for achieving good goals in their marketing field. Hence there are many interesting animation seen for selling of products on internet.

World Wide Web (www) is a collection of interlinked electronic pages or documents which can be accessed through the Internet. With the help of a Web Browser we can view the text, documents, animated videos, sounds etc and link to other web pages with the help of links. We can confirm for the links if we see a pointed hand over the text. World Wide Web was developed by Tim Berners-Lee in 1989.
We know the use of Internet has increased nowadays where everybody can get the information easily and efficiently. Internet is the greatest invention in the world and has changed the face of technology where millions of computers are interconnected to each other to form the network of networks. It has a lot to give us from education to entertainment.
We know that www is a storehouse of information but it is not called as network. People get information on the various topics by writing the particular URL (Uniform Resource Locator) of the particular website in the address bar of the Web Browser, software provided in the OS installed in our PC. For e.g. www.yahoo.com is the URL of the Yahoo website which is consisting of home web page with lots of other web pages interconnected with links and navigated easily. URL is basically the short of address to Web page to access of a particular website. Web page URLs begin with http:// stands for Hypertext transfer Protocol, a communication standard for transferring web pages on the web by sending request to web server which responses back by giving the web pages. The main important thing to notice is that we should have an Internet connection wherever we want to access any information via Web Browser.
How it works?
The very first step is that the server name portion of the URL gets resolved into IP (Internet Protocol) address with the help of the global and widely spread Internet database also called as the domain name system (DNS). Then the IP address after contacted is used to send the data packets to the Web Server.
After that the browser requests the resource by sending an HTTP request to the Web server at that exact address. In the case of a typical Web page, the HTML text of the page is requested first and then makes additional requests for images and any other files are made. After receiving the required files your Web Browser then shows all the information in the form of Web Page having videos, animations and graphics to make the web page more interesting and readable.
Uses
- Searching of the information has become easier by just writing the desired topic in the search engine which is also called as the giant database of information and get all the links and websites to open and read.
- Online shopping is also benefitted for all the online shoppers who want to but their needful things online all with the help of www.
- You can search for the people or do instant emails to share your files with others or even download music, movies or games.
- Thus it is just because of the World Wide Web which has helped us in many ways giving incredible results and vast information.

Ten years back, I still remember that long distance calls really proved to be very costly. However those days are history now. Now you can make the long distance calls at quiet reduced prize. I do feel that you must want to know about such facilities. I must say that they are the internet phones. You will definitely find them to reduce the phone rates to a maximum level. The reason for this is simple and that is internet connections are really fast and cheaper. And now almost all the users around the world have the internet connections.
If you ever talk about the internet phone service then it would really be false step if you will not talk about the VOIP.
VOIP
I do feel that voice over internet protocol or the VOIP is one of the revolutions in recent times. I do feel that internet telephone is really one thing which you will definitely find very cheaper. Let me explain how the VOIP works. The VOIP converts the analog sound into digital form and then breaks it into small data packets. These data packets are then sent over the internet telephone lines and I must say that you will definitely find the voice to be a lot clearer as far as the VOIP is concerned. This is quiet different from the traditional phone lines which uses the copper wire. I do feel that you will definitely find reduced noise level when you will use the VOIP.
The main advantage of the VOIP is the reduction in cost. I do feel that you will definitely find the cost being reduced to minimum. All you will need is a computer, a high speed internet connection and the headphone. And that’s it you are ready for enjoying the advantage of the internet telephony. I would definitely say that if not at the top but the discovery of VOIP will definitely be in the top 100 invention related to internet. It has really revolutionized the internet usage. It has really increased the number of internet users as well.
Computer to phone service
This is generally used for long distance calls. This really enables you to call any phone through the computer. All you will need is the computer, headphone and the high speed internet connection. However you will have to subscribe to the service. Some do provide the service free of cost.
Phone to phone
This is another kind of implementation where you can call from one phone to the other phone using the internet. I do feel that this is really a very good method and saves lots of money.
Can you imagine that you can call to Japan from US at only 1.35 cents? This is really cheap and you should take advantage of it.

Virtual pets are the pets that live on your personal computer instead of your home. If you have small kids or are unable to keep pets at your home you can choose virtual pets and give them place on your desktop. The main reason that leads to development of these pets is to transmit kind feelings about pets in the entire world.
How you can get virtual desktop pets
These pets are lovely and are great fun for children. Even many of these virtually pets are loved by children. There is no harm in keeping large number of virtual pets in a single computer.
- A person can download these virtual pets from various websites and use them on his computer desktop for fun.
- Always use antivirus while downloading the files containing virtual desktop pets.
- The virtual pets include virtual dogs, virtual birds, virtual cats and virtual fishes.
- The person has to register as virtual owner for the specific virtual pet in the website for getting his favorite virtual pet.
How is virtual pet born?
Software programming and animation technology lead to the development of virtual pet. With advanced video-gaming technology, most virtual desktop pets do not show a message box or icon to display the pet’s internal variable, health state or emotion like earlier generations. User can only understand pet’s conditions by seeing its facial expressions and his activities. This condition prevails the feeling of a relationship between user and virtual pet. It allows communication between real and virtual things.
Interaction between virtual pet and user
If the interaction is not goal oriented, the user can explore the character of the pet and enjoy the feeling of building a relationship with his virtual pet.
These virtual pets are programmed to response against keyboard and clicks of mouse. These pets ’sit’ on your desktop screen and react to cursor movements. They are even programmed to produce sounds according to the clicks of mouse and keyboards.
Thus is good to keep a virtual pet on your personal computer.
